Abu Dhabi: The Crown Prince’s Court is supporting a series of community health majlis during the Holy Month of Ramadan, with the support of physicians from Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
The most recent meeting took place on May 20 at Mohammed bin Khalaf Majlis in the Al Karama area of Abu Dhabi. A special women’s area was provided, to ensure people throughout the community could participate.
At each of the sessions, which take place in homes and community areas across Abu Dhabi, experts from Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s centers of excellence provide updates on the range of treatments now available to tackle serious health problems.
In addition, the participating physicians answer questions on general health and wellbeing, offering advice on the simple lifestyle changes that can enable people to live healthier, fitter lives. A professional nutritionist also takes part in each session, providing advice and recipes to support a healthy diet.
Dr. Ahmed Bafadel, Staff Physician in the Heart & Vascular Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, is one of the specialists taking part in the program.
“The issue of heart health is an important one in the community, since heart disease is one of the major causes of long-term illness and death in the UAE. We are very grateful to the Crown Prince’s Court for organizing these events, which give us the opportunity to share news about some of the pioneering treatments that are now available in Abu Dhabi. We can also share general advice to help people pursue healthier lives.”
Iyaad Hasan, Staff Associate in the Medical Subspecialties Institute, also participated. He specializes in health literacy, providing presentations on health and wellness that can be easily shared with attendees’ family and friends.
“This is an important initiative by the Crown Prince’s Court, to bring knowledge and advice into the community, and we are honored to take part,” said Hasan. “The Majlis offers a space for people to gather after prayers and share their thoughts and opinions, so we welcome the opportunity to offer health advice and knowledge, and to answer any questions that people may have.”
At the end of the sessions, the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi team distribute information kits with details of healthcare services, fact sheets, and recipes for healthy eating. The team also schedule appointments and check insurance coverage during the events, so that people who need to see a doctor can do so as their convenience.
The hospital, part of Mubadala’s network of world-class healthcare providers, is specifically designed to address the complex and critical care requirements of the people of Abu Dhabi.
