BUENOS AIRES- Argentina's government said on Wednesday that a team from the country's Economy Ministry and central bank would travel to Washington this weekend to meet with International Monetary Fund staff and push forward talks over a new deal.
The South American country is grappling to strike an agreement with the IMF to roll over some $45 billion in repayments it cannot currently make on a failed 2018 loan after years of economic, debt and currency crises.
"Officials from the Ministry of Economy and the BCRA (central bank) will travel this Saturday to Washington to meet with the staff of the International Monetary Fund," the ministry said in a statement.
"The aim is to continue advancing in the technical understandings within the framework of negotiations with that multilateral lender for a program that allows us to refinance the loan taken in 2018."
