Mumbai - A usufruct agreement to set up the world’s biggest plant for the production of curcumin in Salalah was signed on Tuesday in Mumbai. To be built with an estimated cost of US$20mn, the plant will produce curcumin for food and medical supplements at Salalah Free Zone.

Fortune Bio Organic’s factory at Salalah Free Zone will produce more than 12 tons per annum of curcumin and derivatives. The plant will create more than 100 direct job opportunities, 50 of which in research and development field for curcumin and its derivatives. The plant will target exports to the GCC states, the US and Europe.

The agreement was signed by Ali bin Mohammed Tabuk, deputy CEO of Salalah Free Zone and, the chairman of Trident Agrocom Exports Private Limited.

“The agreement comes within the efforts made by Salalah Free Zone to attract foreign investments and contribute to the growth of national economy by creating job and business opportunities,” Tabuk said. He also commended the efforts made by the team in Salalah Free Zone, which paid well and resulted in attracting foreign investments.
