ALEC Engineering and Contracting (ALEC), part of the Investment Corporation of Dubai (ICD), has signed an exclusive strategic partnership with Norwegian firms MAT Filtration Technologies and MAT-KULING for land-based aquaculture, water treatment projects and filtration projects in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

The company said in a statement that the partnership will provide turnkey solutions for the region’s upcoming megaprojects supporting food security through the development of fisheries, which will utilise MAT-KULING’s Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS), which are especially designed to require less fresh water, while retaining a healthy environment for the fish.

ALEC's CEO Kez Taylor said the partnership will also look at water treatment projects and integrated filtration systems in the future by leveraging MAT-KULING's portfolio of technological solutions.

Quoting RAS Tech Magazine, the statement said Abu Dhabi Catalyst Partners recently closed a round of funding with 8F Asset Management’s land-based aquaculture fund, which also owns Pure Salmon and has multiple RAS projects in Europe, Japan and the United States. In Saudi, NEOM is planning a fish farm with Tabuk Fish Company, which is anticipated to have a production capacity of 70 million eggs, making it the biggest hatchery in the MENA region upon completion.
