The recent pandemic and subsequent lockdown significantly impacted the cashflow of all salons and spas in Dubai. When salons opened on 24th Apr’20, they were allowed to open for restricted hours, 30% occupancy and under strict guidelines by the Dubai government to follow a set of safety practices. Spas opened at least 40 days later. All this while, these small businesses struggled to pay their staff, suppliers and utilities.
During those distressing times, Vaasara launched a #MySalonIsSafe campaign to showcase the safety precautions taken by these establishments to protect their customers and staff. This campaign quickly garnered immense traction with over 150+ salons marked “safe” on the Vaasara mobile app to-date.
Additionally, the company initiated a Shared Promotion Program to help salons with their cash flow during the crisis. In this program, discount given to the B2C customers is jointly shared with the salons, if the customer books services through the Vaasara app. Studies have shown that establishments that continue to showcase the safety precautions undertaken by them, coupled with good offers are attracting new customers.
In an ongoing effort to help these salons stay relevant in the new “normal”, Vaasara has recently organized bi-monthly Virtual Events on Facebook. These events focus on helping salons and spas market themselves for free, where owners can come across as experts in their fields and provide beauty & fashion tips to the users or discuss a business problem. Vaasara has worked with the fashion and music industry here to cross-promote these events. With over 20,000 views for each event, Vaasara means to increase its reach further.

April 2019 saw the release of Vaasara, a booking app to book salons and spas online in Dubai. A year since then, Vaasara has over 400+ salons and spas on board. A new version of the app was released on App Store and Play Store, where user can filter for “Safe” salons and spas, search for a salon by a service, save its credit card details in a PCI-DSS secure compliant vault, review user comments and apply promocodes easily.
