Doha: In an interview with Oxford Business Groups annual publication, QPAY CEO, Mr. Nebil Ben Aissa, declared that the Wage Protection System (WPS) initiative by the Qatar Central Bank (QCB) is working, is very successful, and is making a tremendous positive social impact protecting the human rights of low wage workers in Qatar.

“We service more than 250,000 low wage workers in Qatar, and one of our products is to offer bank accounts to un-banked immigrant workers, as well as make sure that their salaries are paid on time and in full compliance with the rules of the Central Bank of Qatar Wages Protection System…” Said Mr. Ben Aissa CEO of QPAY International, Qatar’s largest Financial Technology (Fintech) company “… interestingly, we have seen substantial improvement in employee salary disbursements. In fact, according to our systems, back in 2015, less than two thirds of employees were receiving their salaries on time and in full; however, our systems show today that more than 98% are receiving their salaries in full and on-time. This is obviously a great improvement in the QCB’s mission to protect worker wages and human rights”.

According to the web site of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, companies that don’t pay employee on time are subject to having their commercial license suspended, furthermore, owners of such companies are also subject to denial of travel abroad of Qatar, in order to enforce that all employees are paid on time and in full before owners of such companies can travel abroad.

Mr. Ben Aissa also added: “… we also service more than 15,000 Qatari businesses, and we’re observing a very clear trend of better education amongst business owners relating to respecting the human rights of their employees and paying them on time and in full.”

“… while many critics outside Qatar are making unsubstantiated fake accusations that Qatar is not ready for 2022 World Cup due to Human Rights violation; we have data to prove otherwise, Qatar is ready for 2022 World Cup thanks to the WPS program; and we are very proud to being one of the largest key players in the QCB’s WPS program! “Concluded Mr. Ben Aissa.
