Doha - Qatar: The International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA), a subsidiary of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC), announced today its support of the efforts of UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, to receive and distribute Zakat and Sadaqah funds for the benefit of refugees and displaced persons around the world, through the Refugee Zakat Fund.
This comes as part of UNHCR’s global campaign “#EverySecondCounts", which aims to alleviate the economic hardships faced by forcibly displaced families far from their homes and loved ones, by directing Zakat and Sadaqah contributions to the most vulnerable groups, through the Refugee Zakat Fund.
Donations received through the Refugee Zakat Fund will help cover the basic needs of millions of the most vulnerable displaced families, in particular those severely affected by the economic repercussions of COVID-19. Contributions will help families cover their costs of food, clean water, housing and clothing, in addition to paying debts, school and health expenses. In November 2020, IIFA issued a fatwa affirming the compliance and commitment of the Refugee Zakat Fund, to the Sharia based provisions and key governance parameters of the receipt and distribution of Zakat to refugee and internally displaced families.
Through “#EverySecondCounts”, UNHCR and IIFA, urgently call on the public to help provide assistance and support to those who in a matter of seconds have had their lives turned around and lost their homes, as every second of the Holy month may be an opportunity to make an impact in the life of a person in need..
Zakat and Sadqah donations to refugees in urgent need can be given now via zakat.unhcr.org and UNHCR’s newly launched Zakat mobile application “GiveZakat”

In 2020, the fund has helped 2.1 million beneficiaries in 13 countries including Yemen, Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, Mauritania, Niger, Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan, through Zakat & Sadaqah donations.
