HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum reviews DEWA's progress on AI and disruptive technologies

Dubai, UAE: HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, has visited Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA’s) stand at GITEX Technology Week 2019, where he was briefed by DEWA officials on the innovative projects and work to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) and disruptive technologies. His Highness was also briefed about Digital DEWA, its digital arm, and also Digital X, which DEWA launched recently as a part of Digital DEWA. Digital X will provide innovative, advanced digital services for both smart city applications and smart living services for the people of Dubai.

His Highness was also briefed about Rammas, DEWA’s AI-based virtual employee, DEWA’s revamped website, and the industrial robot that DEWA developed that quickly and efficiently supervises welding, and transformers maintenance.

"Through Digital DEWA, its digital arm, DEWA will disrupt the entire business of public utilities by becoming the world’s first digital utility to use autonomous systems for renewable energy and storage. At the same time, we are expanding our use of AI and digital services. DEWA has launched several promising programmes, initiatives and projects to this end, including Moro, a specialised provider of data storage, cloud computing and information technology services to the public and private sectors in the UAE and the region,” said Marwan Bin Haidar, Executive Vice President of Innovation & the Future at DEWA.

Bin Haidar noted that Rammas answers customer queries, both in Arabic and English on DEWA’s website and smart app, Facebook page, Amazon's Alexa, Google Assistant, robots, and DEWA’s WhatsApp Business platform. Rammas can continuously learn and understand customers’ needs based on their enquiries, and analyse them based on available data and information to best respond to and streamline transactions. It has answered over 2 million queries since its launch in 2017.

DEWA’s updated website was designed based on customers’ experiences, researches that focused on customers’ needs and the use of advanced smart channel information engineering, as well as benchmarking with leading global websites. The revamped website uses an innovative and seamless design and navigation, which was tested with different user groups.
