• The 2-hour event aims to connect the youth to each other and spring-launch their ideas

United Arab Emirates, Dubai: Grandiose, the fast-growing contemporary supermarket chain owned by UAE headquartered conglomerate Ghassan Aboud Group, will organize an interactive workshop at Dubai Youth Hub called “How to become Eco-friendly Citizens.” The event will be hosted at Emirates Towers on 31st October from 3pm to 5pm. The 2-hour seminar will be led by key note speaker Doua Benhida, a renowned Zero Waste speaker. The main topic of discussion will be around “how to reduce waste and plastic usage in everyday life”.

“This seminar will provide an ideal platform for youth to expand their knowledge, become more aware and connected with the environment,” said Fabrice Le Boulenger, General Manager of Grandiose. “Our approach at Grandiose aims to play an active role in the community by educating our stakeholders and continuously investing in efforts to combat and reduce food wastage.”

The seminar will also include a list of interactive activities, both educative and entertaining, which will cover the five R’s of zero waste - Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Rot and Recycle. The seminar will shed light on how individuals can prevent waste and contribute to the cause, with guidance and practical knowledge.

“I am honoured to have been chosen by Grandiose to lead this inspiring seminar aimed to contribute to youth development in the UAE, and their awareness on how to become Zero Waste in the UAE,” said Doua Benhida. “The positive reaction is a testament that young people really want to make a difference in their lives and the overall community, and I hope to see more initiatives from Grandiose in the future that will help groom and prepare the youth for sustainable development.”

During the seminar, participants will have the opportunity to engage in an open discussion with Doua and Grandiose executives to share their thoughts and ideas on what they would like to see in retail stores and learn about best practices to limit food waste.

“The Youth Hub is a space for youth to interact with each other as well as with their  surroundings – thus this workshop becomes the ideal platform for youth to not only voice their suggestions but also a chance for them to create change. Through the carefully curated workshop, Youth Hub x Grandiose will enable youth to start small and gradually leave a ripple effect for a more aware and sustainable community,” added Nour Alharmoodi, Dubai Youth Hub Manger.

Grandiose has a long-standing commitment towards sustainability and has removed single-use plastic bags at checkout counters, while using non-plastic cutlery in its ‘grab and go’ section. Further, through REFILL – one of many eco-friendly initiatives from Grandiose – the company is making it easier for customers to reuse product packaging, potentially saving significant volumes of unnecessary plastic and packaging waste.
