Dubai, UAE: Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC), an independent forum aimed at conserving the environment by strengthening and promoting green building practices, will host a virtual Building Retrofit Training Programme for the Middle East and North Africa region.

The Building Retrofit Training Programme is a flagship initiative of EmiratesGBC offered in partnership with Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and Masdar. The programme is designed to strengthen knowledge sharing among construction sector stakeholders on the fundamentals of building retrofit and improvement of energy and water efficiency. It helps to make current buildings significantly sustainable with the help of learnings from leading industry experts.

His Excellency Ali Al Jassim, Chairman of EmiratesGBC, said: “EmiratesGBC’s Building Retrofit Training Programme is now being offered virtually to ensure that we can continue to educate and strengthen awareness on best practices in building retrofits. By taking the training online, we are able to extend our reach to professionals across the region who can now benefit from the capacity building opportunity. Building retrofit is a critical aspect of building sustainability and will support the UAE’s ambitious targets of Net Zero Carbon in new buildings by 2030 and Net Zero Carbon in all the buildings by 2050.”

The EmiratesGBC Building Retrofit Training Programme provides strategic technical guidance to industry professionals and economically viable methods that can be implemented to enhance a building’s overall environmental performance. Participants acquire knowledge and skills to attain improved operational efficiency as well as achieve financial savings.

The programme is available in two levels of courses – Introductory and Advanced. The introductory course highlights energy, water, air quality, materials & waste and innovative management aspects of the retrofit programme. The introductory course is perfect for building owners, key decision makers in the construction sector, students and those wanting to increase their awareness of sustainable buildings. Conducted as a one-day course in the classroom, the online course will be divided into two half day sessions.

The advanced course takes a deep dive into all topics related to building retrofits and also offers Retrofitting to Net Zero as an additional offering. The online Advanced course is delivered as four half day sessions and is suitable for engineers, architects and technical experts currently undertaking retrofit projects who wish to enhance their knowledge about the retrofit principles and methods. The participants will also take part in an examination and upon passing they become EmiratesGBC certified Building Retrofit Specialists.

In addition, the participants will also receive a copy of the EmiratesGBC Technical Guidelines for Retrofitting Existing Buildings, an industry benchmark that serves as the reference text of the building retrofit training programme.

The online EmiratesGBC Building Retrofit Training courses will launch in July. For more details, visit https://emiratesgbc.org/ or contact the EmiratesGBC team on training@emiratesgbc.org or call: 04 346 8244.
