Dubai, UAE: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is participating as the strategic sponsor for the 11th Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport 2019, which is organised by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). This is part of DEWA’s corporate social responsibility and its commitment to encourage initiatives that promote sustainable transportation in the UAE.

“We are pleased to sponsor the Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport, which is organised by RTA. This is part of our commitment to support national initiatives that encourage the reduction of carbon emissions and our common vision to consolidate a culture of sustainability, environmental protection, and the conservation of natural resources as well as encourage creativity and innovation. This supports the vision of our wise leadership to promote sustainable development and contributes to achieving the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 to make Dubai the city with the lowest carbon footprint in the world by 2050. It is important to combine the efforts of government and private organisations as well as individuals to achieve these goals and make Dubai a smart and sustainable city,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD& CEO of DEWA.

DEWA sponsors two categories within the Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport: the first is ‘Environmental Preservation,’ which recognises initiatives that decrease the level and impact of air pollution from vehicles; from visual pollution and its impact from discarded fuel, lubricants, tyres, batteries and other waste. The second category is ‘Transport for People of Determination,’ which recognises initiatives and practices that enable the easy movement of people of determination, and efficiently integrate them into society.

The Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport aims to achieve a number of objectives, including awareness and encouragement of individuals and organisations to play an active and positive role in infrastructure development and public transport as well as consolidate the importance of sustainable transport. The Award also spreads awareness and responsibility in society; while supporting and promoting successful initiatives in mobility, safety, and environment, emphasising these values within organisations, while motivating and encouraging creativity and innovation in all areas of mobility.
