The Egyptian Minister of Transport, Lieutenant General Kamel El Wazir, has inaugurated the “Heliopolis” station for Cairo Metro Line 3 phase 4A. The event took place in the presence of Dr. Essam Wally the Chairman of NAT (National Authority for Tunnels); Mr. Dimosthenis Ermilios, Projects Director at Alstom Egypt and Mr Ihab Samir, Project Manager at Alstom Egypt.
In December 2015, NAT awarded Alstom a contract to provide the design, construction and maintenance of the Urbalis 200 signalling system for 4 underground stations, including an ASCV computer-based interlocking[1], fixed block ATC system including onboard ATP and ATO, an Iconis system[2] (for centralized control traffic & power) and traction power supply system.
Considered as the largest subway station in the Middle East and Africa, “Heliopolis” station covers an area of about 10,000 square meters and has 8 entrances and exits.
