A delegation from the World Bank hailed the great development achieved in the Egyptian transportation sector in a meeting on Tuesday with Minister of Transportation Kamel Al-Wazir.

The delegation also reviewed a project to modernise signalling systems on the Cairo-Alexandria line funded by the World Bank.

Furthermore, they expressed their happiness about the significant progress in project implementation rates.

Al-Wazir also discussed strengthening cooperation in various fields of transportation, especially in the field of railways and sustainable green transportation.

He asserted that Egypt is keen to cooperate with international development partners in all sustainable green transportation projects.

Additionally, he said that the ministry is cooperating with four large international companies specialised in developing and modernising signalling systems on railways.

Al-Wazir also stressed the importance of the Sixth of October dry port, which is being implemented by an Egyptian and foreign private sector alliance.

Furthermore, the meeting tackled technical and financial cooperation in terms of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system which will be operated in Greater Cairo’s Ring Road.

The BRT is a high-capacity bus-based public transportation system designed to deliver faster and more efficient services than conventional public transportation modes. The BRT will be environmentally friendly, providing vehicles that run on electricity.
