Manama - Arabian Gulf University: The Arabian Gulf University (AGU) Board of Trustees recently held its 87th meeting to discuss several decisions related to the safe return of students in the academic year 2020-2021, and the application of all University protocols and preventive measures against the outbreak of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

During the online meeting, which was presided over by AGU Board of Trustees Chairman and Higher Education Ministry Undersecretary in Kuwait Dr Sabih Al Mukhaizeem, the attendees also discussed developing the work of the University, which celebrates its 40-years scientific career this year.

AGU President Dr Khalid bin Abdulrahman Al Ohaly welcomed the members of the Board of Trustees and reviewed with them the most significant achievements in the past period, which included obtaining several academic accreditations from highly reputed global bodies. Dr Al Ohaly extended gratitude and appreciation to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Respected Government, and Education Minister HE Dr Majid bin Ali Al Nuaimi, for supporting the University.

The President also extended his sincere thanks and appreciation to their Majesties and Highnesses, the leaders of GCC countries, their Excellencies the Ministers of Education and Higher Education, and AGU Board of Trustees members, for supporting the University, which is considered as a successful joint GCC project with the highest standards to serve the students and community of the GCC.

For his part, Dr Al Mukhaizeem said that AGU is one of the most outstanding GCC achievements, appreciating its diligence in introducing innovative academic disciplines and keeping pace with the developments.

“Over the past 40 years, the efforts of AGU has continued strongly and steadily. It had clear positive impacts on the reinforcement of bonds between GCC countries," Dr Al Mukhaizeem said while appreciating the efforts made by the University's administration and members of the academic and administrative bodies to continue the process of building and preserving the outcomes and achievements, especially in light of the current health challenges facing the whole world.

As the meeting was continued, Dr Al Ohly presented a report on the overall achievements and activities of the University and its future projects. He also briefed the attendees on the developments of construction at the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Medical City project, and the success of the training initiative for 80 Bahraini doctors, to whom AGU was assigned to grant a clinical master’s degree and a clinical diploma in family medicine.

The attendees discussed several matters and recommendations that were aimed at the continuous development and sustainability of the University and its academic programmes.
