MANAMA: The 22nd edition of the TradeQuest Challenge for high school and university students has kicked off, Bahrain Bourse (BHB) has announced.

TradeQuest is a simulated business-education programme that focuses on investment trading in world financial markets.

The 2019-2020 edition includes a total of 19 school teams, featuring nine private schools and 10 government schools.

The schools are, Abdul Rahman Kanoo International School, Al Noor International School, Al Wisam School, British School of Bahrain, Al Hekma International School, Ibn Khuldoon National School, Naseem International School, New Millennium School, St Christopher’s School, Ahmed Al Omran Secondary Boys School, Al Hidd Secondary Girls School, Al Istiqlal Secondary Girls School, Al Noor Secondary Girls School, Jidhafs Secondary Girls School, Khawla Secondary Girls Schools, Muharraq Secondary Boys School, Saar Secondary Girls School, Shaikh Abdulaziz Secondary Boys School, and Shaikha Moza Secondary Girls School.

In addition, the seven universities taking part this year are, Ahlia University, AMA International University, Arab Open University, Bahrain Polytechnic, the BIBF, Royal University for Women and University of Bahrain.

Held over a period of six-months, the programme consists of three trading periods where the teams are required to present their strategy, objectives, and performance to an investment review committee at the end of each trading period.

The top three finalists from each category (total of nine finalist teams) are given cash awards totalling BD30,000.

The kick-off meeting was held at BHB, with all participating students, schools’ teams and university advisers in attendance along with the investment advisers who will monitor and coach the teams.

BHB chief executive Shaikh Khalifa bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa said: “TradeQuest is our flagship programme for the younger generation, aimed at enhancing their knowledge of capital markets as well as enhance students future employability. Bahrain Bourse’s financial literacy programmes are aimed at equipping the future generations with core competencies to help select amongst complex financial products and services and to create a sustainable financial well-being.”

Platinum category sponsors for the programme are, Ahli United Bank, Bank ABC, Khaleeji Commercial Bank and National Bank of Bahrain, while gold sponsors are Ithmaar Holding, Sico and United Gulf Bank.

The silver category sponsors are, Al Salam Bank, Alba, BBK, Bahrain Islamic Bank, Esterad Investment Company and Gulf International Bank, and BIBF is the knowledge partner.
