Bahrain - Cash, food, medical equipment and logistical needs can now be donated to the national fight against Covid-19 through an online fundraising campaign.
The online platform was launched yesterday by the Royal Humanitarian Foundation (RHF) in support of the Feena Khair (There is Good in Us) national campaign.
The campaign, launched earlier this week, aims to collect funds towards the government’s efforts to combat the coronavirus disease.
RHF secretary general Dr Mustafa Al Sayed told the GDN yesterday that the campaign also aims to mitigate the economic impact on individuals and businesses affected by the pandemic.
“The Royal Humanitarian Foundation, as part of national efforts to combat the spread of Covid-19, launched this online platform on the directives of our board of trustees chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa,” he said.
“This campaign is an extension to the wide range of measures already taken by the government including the stimulus package to help the private sector and individuals.
“We were well ahead of many countries in handling this pandemic and our medical services are at the forefront of combating this virus.”
Shaikh Nasser, who is also His Majesty’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs, National Security Adviser and chairman of Supreme Council for Youth and Sport, has personally contributed BD1 million to support the national campaign.
Other notable donations include BD2.5m from the National Bank of Bahrain and BD1.5m from the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Dr Al Sayed explained that it was vital to support the private sector during this period, which requires fundraising initiatives and generous donors to come forward.
He also encouraged companies and individuals in Bahrain to register their details by visiting the RHF website – www.rco.gov.bh.
“They can donate cash, food, medical items and other logistics requirements by filling up the form, and our team would get in touch with them to follow up on the process,” said Dr Al Sayed.
The RHF has already started providing aid to Bahraini families and businesses financially affected by the Covid-19 outbreak since last month.
“We have distributed BD350 each to about 1,000 underprivileged families, along with BD350 each to support about 500 macro businesses,” he said.
“We also paid BD350 each to the visually impaired, who lost their jobs (due to Covid-19).
“In addition to this, we have started a campaign called ‘Your Medicine at Home’, where our team of volunteers deliver medicines to individuals during this period.”
Dr Al Sayed also said that the RHF is planning to run a campaign during Ramadan to help low-income workers.
“Many low-income workers who go to mosques for Iftar meals during Ramadan cannot do it this year,” he explained.
“Therefore, we plan to provide food aid to more than 1,000 migrant workers as part of this campaign.”
Dr Al Sayed also revealed that with the help of Productive Families they have manufactured more than 16,000 masks that will be delivered to migrant workers across the country.
“We have received our first batch of these locally-made masks that will be distributed by our team of volunteers in the coming days,” he added.
Dr Al Sayed will appear on Bahrain TV today for a live fundraising event for the national campaign against Covid-19 that will be aired at 1.30pm.
