BEIRUT: Lebanon marked half million total registered coronavirus cases since the first case was recorded in the country, with 2,460 new cases and 40 deaths Wednesday.
The total number of cases since the virus was first detected in the country on Feb. 21, 2020, crossed the half million mark at 502,299, according to figures released by the Health Ministry. The total number of fatalities now stands at 6,778.
The cases were detected among 20,088 tests, with only 16 cases found among travelers arriving at Rafik Hariri International Airport. The average positivity rate throughout the last two weeks stood at 14.8 percent.
The statistics provided by the Health Ministry also show that 1,850 patients are currently hospitalized for COVID-19 and related complications, with 821 in the ICU and 226 requiring ventilators.
The Health Ministry also reported that 5,899 first-stage jabs and 4,199 second-round vaccinations were administered in the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative number of inoculations since the Feb. 14 onset to 218,744 first-stage and 111,4930 second-stage jabs so far.
