Details of the safety and health protocols published in the Official Gazette last night have laid down some ground rules for reopening the cinema halls.
l Only people who have been vaccinated against Covid-19, or are Covid-19 recovered, will be allowed to enter the cinema halls;
l Anyone showing Covid-19 symptoms or a temperature above 37.5C will be denied entry;
l The cinemas will be running at 50 per cent capacity;
l Children aged below 12 will need to be accompanied by a vaccinated adult;
l Face masks must be worn at all times while watching a film, except when eating and drinking;
l Even if in a group, seats between every person should be kept empty to observe social distancing.
“Regular inspections will be carried out at cinema halls to ensure adherence to the guidelines, failure of which will result in the outlet being shut down,” said the guidelines.
Movie-goers are also urged to book their tickets online rather than queueing up at the counters and avoid overcrowding.
Staff working at the cinema halls are encouraged to get the jab and wear face masks at all times.
Meanwhile, film buffs are in for a treat as some of the biggest films from Hollywood and Bollywood will be screened round-the-clock during the public holidays.
The Bahrain Cinema Company (Cineco) said it hoped that the long weekend combined with an influx of visitors via King Fahad Causeway, which is expected to open on May 17, will lead to large numbers of people flocking to the movies..
“We will be open round-the-clock from the first day of Eid with a great line-up of blockbusters featuring on our 53 screens across the country,” said Cineco general supervisor Mahmood Jagbeer.
He said 15 films that will be screened throughout the long holiday include American monster film Godzilla vs Kong, a sequel to Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) and Kong: Skull Island (2017), the fourth film in Legendary’s MonsterVerse. “Another big title is Radhe, featuring Indian superstar Salman Khan, whose films are always known to draw large crowds during Eid.”
Also popular among the younger generation will be the action-packed new Mortal Kombat film inspired by the blockbuster video game franchise. Other films in the line-up include Ahmed Notre-Dame and Dido (Arabic), animation films Raya and The Last Dragon, Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, Dragon Rider and A Costume for Nicholas, action-thriller Wrath of Man, The Mauritanian, horror films Séance and Great White, Malayalam film Chathur Mukham and Tamil film Karnan.
Vox Cinemas Bahrain at The Avenues and City Centre Bahrain along with Cinépolis Cinemas at the Atrium Mall has also posted on its social media they were excited to welcome visitors during Eid.
