It will be a battle of tactics in the AFC Asian Cup quarterfinal as China play Iran at the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium on Thursday.

China head coach Marcello Lippi has termed Iran as the stronger unit but said anything is possible in football whereas his counterpart Carlos Queiroz maintained there were no favourites.

Lippi termed the 2018 World Cup side Iran as a 'top team in Asia' but remained confident about his players' ability. "I think in past few years, both teams have improved but Iranians have shown better potential than us. They are physically strong, well organised and possess quality. You cannot afford to make any mistakes against Iran. It's going to be hard game but in football you never know. We also have potential. We will do our best to create chances and score. You have to be spot on with your tactics. We will put our best efforts into the game and make a perfect tactical one. Nothing is impossible in football."

Lippi said there were few injury concerns to main players including star striker Wu Lei.

Meanwhile, Iran head coach Queiroz said the game was the most important of their lives.

"We know it is a difficult task but we are excited and prepared. We will do everything to keep our dreams of a title alive."

When told that Iran had suffered losses at similar stage in previous editions, the coach said players will be more alert now.

"No two games in football are same. It is always a difficult story. This is a new adventure. We need to play with all the lessons we have learnt in last few years."

Iran reached so far without conceding a goal or losing but Queiroz don't buy the favourites tag.

"This is just like a Cup final as they are games which do not have a history and a past. You cannot lose a game because of history or statistics. You will win because of character. Those who can express their emotions better will win," the coach added.
