Abu Dhabi Police have some advice message for UAE drivers.

The need for precaution is real, as distracted driving can lead to a tragic accident in just a few seconds.

Using a hand held mobile phone while driving constitutes one of the the most common distractions for UAE drivers, meriting a fine of Dh800 and 4 black points on its own in the list published by the government.

Any other distractions will also be fined Dh800 and given 4 black points.

According to the RoadSafetyUAE website, other common distractions while driving include:

- other occupants in the car, including children or pets

- smoking, eating or drinking

- adjusting radio or sound system

- reaching for objects in the car

- using GPS andreading a map

- applying makeup or styling hair

Drivers should be aware that the four main types of distraction constitute visual, manual, cognitive and auditory. The most fatal type of distraction involves taking your eyes off the road.
