UAE - The Sharjah Municipality recently started demolishing illegal barns in various areas of the emirate, as part of its crackdown on violations that destroy the city's landscape.

Thabet Salem Al Tarifi, director-general of Sharjah Municipality, said inspectors earlier conducted field visits and urged barn owners to avoid penalties by dismantling their illegal structures.

They were given a grace period to complete the process, and those who failed to comply would have their barns demolished.

"We visited areas to monitor the removal of the barns and other unauthorised constructions," said Al Taraifi.

The municipality is determined to completely stamp out barn violations, considering the dangers associated with stray animals. If regulations are not followed, cows and camels, for example, may venture out onto the streets and cause serious traffic accidents, they warned.

Khalid bin Falah Al Suwaidi said the team has been working hard to raise awareness and educate barn owners about these hazards and the importance of complying with policies.
