BELGRADE, 22nd June, 2017 (WAM) -- H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, on Wednesday inaugurated the new headquarters of the UAE Embassy in Serbia on the sidelines of his official visit to the country.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah and Maja Gojkovic, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, unveiled a commemorative plaque to mark the opening of the building.

Speaking at the inauguration, Sheikh Abdullah said that the opening of the new embassy reflects the UAE Government's keenness to strengthen and develop its bilateral relations with Serbia and advance them to serve the interests of both peoples.

Gojkovic expressed her delight at the opening of the new UAE headquarters in her country, saying that the move will help strengthen communication between the two countries and their friendly peoples, and maintain their shared strong and distinguished relations.

Later, the UAE Foreign Minister and the Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs, Nebojsa Stepanovic, signed two Memoranda of Understanding, one for cooperation in security and counter-terrorism and another on driving license recognition between the UAE and Serbia.

The ceremony was attended by a number of local and UAE officials, including Serbian Minister of Defence, Zoran Dordevic, and Juma Rashid Saif Al Dhaheri, the UAE Ambassador to Serbia.
