Ras Al Khaimah: Police managed to save a young German man on Tuesday night after he tried to broadcast his suicide live on Facebook from a Ras Al Khaimah mountain, Gulf News has learned.

The video was seen by the man’s brother, prompting him to alert police.

On receiving the emergency call, Police Air Wing, patrol cars and an ambulance rushed to the mountain to help the man.

Police discovered his abandoned car, and soon after found the man. He was exhausted and in a serious condition, sitting at the side of the mountain.

He still had a pulse as medics carried him from the site and took him to Sqar hospital.

A hospital official told Gulf News late Tuesday the man’s life was no longer in danger after treatment.

An official from Ras Al Khaimah Police told Gulf News that an initial investigation revealed the man had been involved in a family dispute prior to the suicide attempt. The police investigation is ongoing

Meanwhile, a British national plunged to his death on a climb with his friend in the rocky, mountainous terrain in Ras Al Khaimah on Tuesday evening.

The young man fell to his death while hiking in the upper extremities of the local mountain range near Al Beih.

His compatriot was leading the hike, and at one point looked behind to find the victim had disappeared.

He discovered that the victim had fallen and could not be helped. The friend reported the incident to Ras Al Khaimah Police, who sent the Air Wing to reach the victim.

The range of mountains running through Ras Al Khaimah, where it peaks at Jebel Jais (1,911 metres, 6,268 feet) is a popular destination for trekkers from the UK.
