KUWAIT CITY: MP Mohamed Al-Huwaila has submitted a legislative proposal to increase the surface area of allotted agricultural plots and grant tangible support to Kuwaiti farmers with the aim of increasing the agricultural products of the country and optimize its effects on the Kuwaiti landscape.

In spite of the specific role played by the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources to help farmers increase the agricultural produce, he said, there has been a noticeable decrease in active agricultural plots.

That is in addition to agricultural subsidies being the highest amongst the others, with KD 262 million spent over the past last 10 years, as well as KD 71 million for the promotion of vegetable production, ”but statistics and all other reports points in the opposite direction,” affirmed the parliamentarian.

Therefore, the MP proposed for the expansion of allotted agricultural plots in accordance with the establishment of the PAAAFR law. This will provide extensive support for Kuwaiti farmers and give them security and means to sell their produce by implementing a collaborative channel with concerned governmental authorities, to safeguard their rights and promote national produce.
