The integration of women’s needs in the state budget will be on the agenda of the Shura Council during its weekly session today.

The Financial and Economic Affairs Committee submitted a law proposal aimed at achieving gender balance and consolidating women’s status.

It said the proposal achieves the goals set in the National Strategy for the Development of Bahraini Women.

The proposed legislation would amend the law on state budget to incorporate women’s needs and achieve gender balance.

The Finance and National Economy Ministry has already issued circulars, giving instructions to implement the principle of equal opportunity and draw up budgets which incorporate women’s needs.

The session will also discuss a draft law committing the Finance and National Economy Minister to submit the draft law on state budget to the Cabinet to be approved before the end of August.

Under the present regulations the government draws up the draft law on the budget plan and refer it to the legislative branch two months before the end of the fiscal year.
