950 kilos of unfit food destroyed and 11 establishments in Kuwait shut

KUWAIT CITY: The Public Authority for Food Nutrition (PAFN) continues to intensify its inspection campaigns on cooperative societies, central and parallel markets, to ensure the safety and security of food storage as the country prepares for the holy month of Ramadan.

The director of the Hawalli Governorate Inspection Department, Ali Al-Kandari, said about 950 kilos of foodstuff believed to be unfit for human consumption have been destroyed and 11 food establishments were administratively closed during the campaigns and inspection tours in Hawalli Governorate during the first quarter of this year.

In a statement to Al-Seyassah, Al-Kandari said the Hawalli Inspection Department is keen to develop and update the work mechanism to monitor and educate the owners of establishments and their workers about the PAFN rules and regulations in force to ensure compliance with health requirements, as well as the exchange of experiences between inspectors and inspectors.

In order to achieve this, he indicated the daily inspection tours are carried out led by food inspectors, and weekly campaigns are conducted and the work team to inspect cooperative societies, supermarkets and parallel markets to ensure the safety of food storage and the date of expiry, especially before the holy month of Ramadan, when there are many offers on products that may be interspersed with expiry dates of products.

Meanwhile, the Inspection Department of the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition (PAFN) of the Capital governorate launched an inspection campaign at night to monitor violations committed by persons delivering food and consumer goods during partial ban times, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, reports Al-Rai daily.

The director of the administration, Abdul- Rahman Al-Faris told the daily the campaign was aimed to ensure compliance with the laws, decisions and regulations put in place by PAFN and those in charge of home-delivery requests, in order to protect the health of citizens and residents.

Al-Faris pointed out 30 violations were recorded during the first hour of the start of the campaign in Al-Daiya Thursday night, pointing out that most of the violations were limited to laws and regulations of PAFN.

He listed the violations as follows delivering foodstuffs by a method that does not comply with health requirements; delivering foodstuffs without obtaining a license from PAFN and the person delivering the foodstuff not holding a health card.
