Muscat: Sweetened drinks will attract an excise tax of 50 percent from October 1, 2020, the Tax Authority in Oman has announced.

The authority said: "In accordance with the provisions of Article (15) of the Excise Tax Law, anyone who practices an activity related to the taxable sweetened drinks (such as import, production or trade or distribution) should submit a notification of their stocks from the day before the tax is applied (the stock he has at the end of September 30, 2020), provided it is submitted within (15) from the date of application is subject to tax through the electronic portal of the tax authority."
