• UL’s Gavirate Lab in Italy is the first third-party lab outside Egypt authorized by the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality (EOS)

Dubai:  UL’s Gavirate Lab in Italy has become the first Third-Party Lab outside Egypt authorized by the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality (EOS) to conduct testing according to Egyptian Energy Efficiency and performance standards and issue relevant test reports.

The global safety science organization recognized the increased need for non-Egyptian manufacturers to have a trusted partner to enter the Egyptian market in a safer and more sustainable way.

Clients of UL will now benefit from a smoother and more efficient process, as they will be tested according to ES standards and be able to receive relevant test report which is mandatory to apply for the EE certification. The UL GMA then follows the full process to obtain the EE certification/label.

The UL laboratory in Gavirate, near Milan Italy, is highly specialized in testing household appliances such as refrigerators, fridge-freezers, washing machines, dishwashers and electrical ovens.

The process to access the Egyptian market has undergone recent changes to better organize the Egyptian market and introduce mechanisms and processes for the trading of household appliances while also trying to raise consumers awareness on energy efficiency and the importance of controlling domestic production vs imported products.

To ensure that only compliant products can be placed in the Egypt market, the Egyptian government officially released a decree aimed at the uniformization and standardization of the process.

Domenico Chicco, Global Business Development Manager for UL’s Appliances division, said: “Becoming the first Third Party Lab outside Egypt authorized by EOS, is a great honour and a great opportunity for UL as it is the first European and global laboratory achieving this recognition.

“With this new recognition, we are further expanding our testing and certification capacities in Europe to improve how we serve market demand.”

Hamid Syed, UL Vice President & GM for UL Middle East, said: “Businesses who wish to establish and maintain their presence in Egypt are expected to complete a safety certification process with EOS and we will now be able to help them with an end to end solution.

“Egypt will now have easier and greater access to the latest authentic products from around the world, which will also help to boost Egypt’s trade industry.”
