Cairo – Telecom Egypt announced signing a deal with the Administrative Capital for Urban Development (ACUD) to establish and operate telecommunications networks in the New Administrative Capital.
The state-owned telecom operator will also provide the new capital’s smart services and security systems, according to two separate statements released by the cabinet and Telecom Egypt on Wednesday.
Telecom Egypt will immediately start working on the first phase of the project, which includes the government district, with an investment cost of EGP 40 billion, minister of communications and information technology, Amr Talaat, said.
The first phase is expected to be finalised within six months, he added.
This step is part of Telecom Egypt’s efforts to “capitalise on and facilitate the national digital transformation,” the company’s managing director and CEO, Adel Hamed, noted.
