Cairo –  The Social Housing and Mortgage Finance Fund (SHMFF) aims to build 25,000 green housing units in five new cities by the end of 2023, the fund's Executive Director, Mai Abdel Hamid, said.

The green housing units are set to be established in New Aswan, New Minya, Hadayek October, New Sohag, and Capital Gardens, Abdel Hamid added in a statement on Wednesday.

Small solar power panels will be installed on top of a number of buildings to lower electricity usage in the projects, she noted.

Green housing units should meet several standards, including the use of eco-friendly finishing products and greywater systems, the plantation of roofs, and the installation of solar power panels on top of each building.
