Riyadh – Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Tourism has issued more than 400,000 tourist visas in six months since the rollout of the tourist visa system in September 2019 until March 2020, state-run Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The ministry said the new system helped boost investments in the tourism sector, develop the national economy, increase the number of job opportunities while building major tourism projects.

It further added that it provided SAR 160 million in loans to support the tourism sector.

In 2019, the GCC country launched a new visa system through which citizens from 49 countries can apply for an e-visa online or get a visa on arrival into Saudi Arabia. The kingdom aims to increase the tourism sector's contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) to 10% by 2030.
