Cairo –   Egyptian National Railways (ENR) has transported around 2.6 million passengers last week, Egypt's transport minister Kamel El-Wazir announced in a statement issued on Sunday.

The ministry has taken regulatory measures to manage ticket booking transactions and prevent crowding at ticket offices by increasing the number of ticket booking outlets and allowing for online reservations.

El-Wazir added that the ministry is committed to the cabinet's decision to suspend public transport from Sunday to Friday, 29 May.

The minister confirmed that the railway authority was directed to intensify maintenance and renovation works of railways during that period.
