Cairo – The total number of housing units built during fiscal year (FY) 2019/2020 in Egypt reached about 194,200 with investments of EGP 79 billion, compared to around 281,300 in FY18/19 with investments of EGP 94.6 billion, according to data by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

Economic housing made up 56.2% of total housing units with 109,100, followed by middle housing with 64,400 (33.1%), higher middle housing with 12,900 (6.7%), and luxury housing with 7,800 (4%), the CAPMAS said in a statement on Sunday.

The governmental and public business sectors built 85,000 or 43.7% of total units, of which 38% are in Cairo and 26.8% in Giza.

Meanwhile, the private sector established 109,300 or 56.3% of total units, including 14.5% in Menofia Governorate and 11.7% in Cairo.
