Work on the first phase of the expansion of Shaikh Zayed Avenue to cater to increasing traffic is on track.

“The project, launched last August, aims to turn the avenue into a three-lane highway in both directions,” said Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Ministry assistant under-secretary for roads Huda Abdulla Fakhro.

The first phase extends from December 16 Highway to Khalifa Bin Salman Highway and from A’ali roundabout to Isa Bin Salman Highway.

The four junctions would be turned into traffic lights as part of the project which includes street lightings, safety barriers, road resurfacing and rainwater drainage.
