Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Minister Wael Al Mubarak said the ministry accords great importance to enhancing and investing in food security in Bahrain, in line with His Majesty King Hamad’s directives and government’s policy in this regard, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. This came in his reply to a parliamentary question on food security submitted by Shura Council’s second deputy chairperson Dr Jihad Al Fadhel.

The ministry has offered lands that are suitable for agricultural investment, while requiring the use of modern agricultural technologies when implementing the projects in order to ensure production efficiency and the use and sustainability of natural resources, he pointed out. A number of foreign investment companies have applied for investment in the kingdom, and their project proposals are being evaluated, he added.

“The royal directives to develop and implement a strategic project for national food production represented a locomotive of our national projects to achieve food sustainability, Dr Al Fadhel told our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej, calling for expediting the establishment of the National Food Security Committee.
