The number of Bahrainis working in the financial sector increased by 3.3 per cent in 2022, according to a survey by the Central Bank of Bahrain.

Releasing key findings of the Annual Manpower Survey 2022, the regulator said the total number of employees in the financial sector in 2022 increased to 14,124 employees compared to 13,697 employees as of end-2021, an increase of 427 jobs.

The number of employees in the banking sector totalled 7,080 employees at end-2022 compared to 6,865 employees at end-2021, an increase of 215 employees.

The employment in the non-bank financial sector (comprising insurance firms, money changers, financing companies, investment business firms, and other non-bank financial institutions) increased by 214 jobs, taking the number to 6,563 employees at end-2022 compared to 6,349 employees at end-2021.

The survey revealed that the Bahraini workforce employed by the financial services sector reached 9,708 in 2022, an increase of 306 jobs.

Total number of Bahraini women in the financial sector increased by 81 jobs, totalling 3,821 at end-2022 compared to 3,740 at end-2021.

Also, the proportion of Bahraini women holding management positions is 34.2pc of the total management positions held by the Bahraini workforce in the financial sector compared to 33.5pc registered at end-2021.

The number of Bahrainis (men and women) holding senior management positions (including CEOs, executives, directors and assistant directors) reached 3,551 at the end of 2022.

The number of Bahrainis holding supervisory positions (including superintendents, head of units, head of divisions) was 2,157 in the same year.

The number of Bahraini board members of financial institutions reached 442 members at end-2022 (48.7pc of the total), of whom 379 were men and 63 were women.
