Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity shared updates in connection with cross-border power grid projects with Turkey, Jordan and the Gulf countries.

Ministry spokesman Ahmed Musa told the state-run Iraqi News Agency that work is underway for interconnection with Jordan. The first phase will start by early June, with a capacity of 150 megawatts (MW).

He confirmed work is ongoing to construct Iraq to the GCC Grid by linking Iraq’s Faw station with Al-Wafra station in Kuwait.

He added that the ministry also discussed the planned interconnection with Saudi Arabia on April 11 and has set a date for the start of the project.

Musa disclosed that the link with Turkey is fully complete, Iraq is waiting to finalise the electricity tariffs to implement the final operating agreement.
