Bahrain’s Ministry of Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning is expected to invite proposals for its residual waste-to-energy treatment plant in the first quarter 2023.

“The tender is expected to be released by mid of first quarter 2023,” a source aware of the matter told Zawya Projects.

The project involves the development and operation of a waste treatment plant with Incineration in the Gulf kingdom with a maximum design input capacity of 1,306,510 tonnes per annum and a minimum operation period of 25 years, according to a Bahrain Tender Board notice.

The Plant’s intended outputs are electricity, fed into the national grid through power purchase agreement (PPA), incinerator bottom ash, flue gas, and recyclable materials.

The tender board said the bidder would be required to develop a solution for the management of the output materials.

Thirteen companies had responded to Prequalification Questionnaire (PQQ) issued on 16 June 2022 with a submission deadline of 31 August 2022, and opening date of 1 September 2022.
