Real estate developer Ithra Dubai announced on Tuesday the completion of the final lift of The Link, the 226-metre long skybridge connecting the One Za'abeel towers.

Director and CEO Issam Galadari said in a statement that the company is "thrilled to be part of the city's narrative and to join its long list of firsts."

The lift of The Link, the press statement said, was accomplished in two phases.

In September 2020, the first structure, 192 meters long and weighing over 8,500 tonnes, was lifted over a 12-day period in one of the heaviest lifting operations in the region.

The second phase joined the 900-tonne cantilevered structure with the first section of The Link and was executed over the course of four days by employing more than 55 jacks and strand jacks, and 12.2 km of strands.

ALEC, the project's main contractor, said in a separate statement that the cantilever now stands at a total height of 125 metres.

Kez Taylor, Chief Executive Officer of ALEC, said that throughout the four-day process, the team "continuously monitored the structural behaviour of The Link' and the Towers, reassuring the design's integrity and strength."

The Link qualifies One Za’abeel to attempt to break the Guinness World Records title for the 'Longest Cantilevered Building' in the world, as it will be placed between two towers that stand at 300 and 235 metres, respectively.

One Za'abeel, which includes residential, office, and retail spaces and the world's first vertical urban resort under the One & Only brand, would be delivered in stages starting the fourth quarter of 2021, the Ithra Dubai statement said.
