Egypt’s engineering exports reached a record high in February 2026, marking the strongest monthly performance in the sector’s history, according to the Engineering Export Council (EEC).
The surge underscores the growing global competitiveness of Egyptian industry despite persistent economic headwinds worldwide.
The council said exports rose by 37.6% year-on-year to approximately $709.7m in February, up from $515.8m in the same month of 2025—an unprecedented leap for the sector.
On a cumulative basis, engineering exports increased by 15.1% in the first two months of 2026, reaching $1.187bn, compared to nearly $1bn in the corresponding period last year.
Strong performance across sectors
The growth was driven by robust performance across key industries. The metals sector recorded the highest increase at 77%, followed by automotive components at 43%, while electrical and electronics industries posted growth of 20.8%.
Egyptian engineering exports also continued to expand across a wide range of international markets. In Europe, key destinations included Hungary, Turkey, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, France, Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Slovenia.
Exports gained further momentum in Arab markets such as Libya, Sudan, Morocco, Lebanon, and Syria, alongside Asian markets including Qatar and Bahrain. Growth also extended across Africa, reaching Kenya, South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, Tanzania, Nigeria, Mauritius, Zimbabwe, and the Central African Republic.
In addition, exports reached major global markets such as the United States and Argentina, reflecting the increasing diversification and global reach of Egyptian engineering products.
Outlook and expansion plans
Sherif El-Sayyad, Chairperson of the EEC, said the strong performance reflects sustained efforts by Egyptian companies to enhance product quality, increase value-added, and strengthen competitiveness.
He noted that the February surge comes at a critical time amid regional challenges, highlighting the resilience of Egyptian exporters.
El-Sayyad added that the council is continuing to open new markets while consolidating its presence in existing ones—particularly in Africa and Europe—alongside a focus on high-potential sectors such as automotive components and electrical industries.
As part of its expansion strategy, the council is planning a series of trade missions and international exhibitions, including a mission to Tunisia on 6 April 2026, participation in an exhibition in the Netherlands on 18 May, and upcoming missions to Brazil, Argentina, and other Latin American markets—aimed at sustaining growth and further boosting exports throughout 2026.
