Kuwait’s Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) has approved the request of the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport to invite bids for the detailed study and design work, along with the preparation of tender documents for Phase 1 of the railway project, according to local news reports.

An estimated five to seven consulting offices are expected to submit bids for the tender, which will close on 21 February 2023, English daily Arab Times reported, citing a report by Al-Qabas Arabic newspaper.

The estimated value of the consultancy project is about 1 million Kuwaiti dinars ($3.27 million).

The tender is likely to be awarded within 90 days from the closing date, the report said, adding the studies and final designs are scheduled for completion in one year. After that, the construction contracts will be awarded.

The railway line will extend 110 kilometres from the southern border to the Shaddiyah region. The project is slated for completion between two and three years, the report said.
