Zimbabwe has banned the export of raw lithium to focus on value addition, The North Africa Post newspaper reported.

The government is losing $1.8 billion in mineral revenues due to smuggling and externalisation.

Zimbabwe is expected to become one of the world’s largest lithium exporters, with the government hoping to meet 20 percent of the world’s total demand for lithium when it fully exploits its lithium resources.

The country has the largest lithium deposits in Africa, the newspaper said.
