Dr Shamsheer Vayalil, Conference President and Managing Director, VPS Healthcare, said: "Early diagnosis and detection of cancer profoundly affects survival rates leading to improved quality of life and an overall positive outcome. However, a large fraction of the population does not undergo appropriate screening or is screened inconsistently.
"As a result of this, cancer detection happens with the onset of symptoms, which is too late. Advancements in science and technology, a multimodality approach and the availability of innovative techniques helps us in developing promising strategies for a positive patient outcome.
"We are conducting several programmes at community level to create awareness and this conference, under the theme 'Navigating Cancer Care by early Detection and prevention,' is a step forward in our efforts towards building a knowledge sharing platform for the medical fraternity. Almost everyone knows someone, a family member, friend or neighbour, whose life has been affected by cancer.
"VPS Healthcare embraces the philosophy that readily available screening and early detection are the critical keys to alleviating cancer."
Vinay Batra, Chairman, Organising Committee and CEO- Diagnostic Services at VPS Healthcare, said: "Generally, communicable disease makes headlines although the impact of cancer is far greater than the statistics available on diagnosis. Billions of dollars is globally invested into critical research to better understand the cause of cancer, develop new diagnostic tools and pursue innovative treatments.
"However, detection at an early stage is important to increase the chances of successful end result and a reduction in overall treatment costs. The International Oncology forum is less than three years old and the fact that we already have more than 700 delegates registered clearly reflects the interest of the healthcare community in the fight against cancer."
With a multi-disciplinary approach to prevention, early detection and treatment, the conference will address the need for clinicians to keep pace with rapidly growing developments in the field of Oncology. During the two day event, high profile experts will stimulate discussion on a range of current issues related to five different cancers- breast cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer, cervical cancer.
Dr Ali Obaid Al Ali, Chairman, Scientific Committee and CEO- Abu Dhabi Hospitals, VPS Healthcare, said: "Continuous medical education for healthcare professionals has always been our top priority for building a sustainable healthcare delivery system and the work carried out by both scientific and organising team is really incredible to prepare a comprehensive agenda by selecting topics of global interest in alignment with the theme of the conference to address the knowledge of a diverse audience."
Mr Khaled Afify, General Manager, Mena Conference, said that based on the merits of scientific content, the conference has been awarded 14 Continuing Medical Education hours by HAAD (Health Authority of Abu Dhabi) and will benefit all doctors from various disciplines such as Obstetrics and Gynecologists, Family Physicians/ Internists, General Practitioners, Medical, Surgical and Radiation Oncologists, Pathologists and other healthcare professionals to stay abreast of the knowledge of early detection and prevention.
