Internet Users Continue to Dial Up with U.S. Robotics' Flagship Technology
Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 13 March 2003
U.S. Robotics®, the world's leading provider of Internet access and connectivity products, maintained its number-one position of analog desktop modem retail sales, according to the latest figures released by The NPD Group, a market information company. Over the last several months, U.S. Robotics consecutively led the industry in dial-up Internet access connections. According to The NPD Group's December 2002 data, the company achieved 42 percent market share and held the top spot in analog desktop modem units sold.
Industry experts expected a decline in dial-up connection use due to the introduction and expansion of several new Internet access technologies. However, according to IDC, a majority of Internet users continue to use dial-up connections, with only 25 percent of online households currently employing broadband connections. Consumers have continued to rely on dial-up modems for simple, reliable Internet access that is reasonably priced and available in all areas.
"U.S. Robotics' analog modem business serves as the foundation of our company, so we are thrilled to once again break into a new year leading the desktop modem retail market with our heritage product line," said Amy Hansen, product line manager, analog modems, U.S. Robotics. "We continue to stand by the value and performance of analog modems, and we have also expanded our business to include a full suite of wireless networking and broadband equipment to meet the growing needs of our small office/home office and small-to-medium-sized business customers."
U.S. Robotics analog modem family includes controller-based, contollerless and softmodems, as well as a full line of external, internal and laptop modems. The products provide quick, reliable and convenient online Internet access and feature on-site design, development and testing by U.S. Robotics' experienced engineering and quality assurance team. Moreover U.S. Robotics analog modem devices are simple to install, easy to use and are available through all major distribution channels including retail, e-tail, catalog and resellers.
