Reiterating his commitment towards Sustainable Development Goals, Dr. Mahmoud AlBurai, Vice-President of the International Federation of Realtors has made the country proud again with the exclusive recognition as ‘City Changer’ by World Urban Campaign (WUC) 2021. The organization recognizes ‘City Changers’ for their outstanding contributions to address the challenges of climate change to lead to the United Nations Climate Change Conference. With Expo 2020 that promotes international collaboration for a better future through sustainability, mobility, and opportunity; this recognition makes the UAE stand tall in the global arena.
Holding multiple international positions in the field of sustainable development and city planning, Dr. Mahmoud AlBurai (Founder, Middle East Institute of Sustainable Development in Geneva, Senior Advisor at Dubai Real Estate Regulatory Agency, International Advisor to the United Nations Cities Program, and Member of the Advisory Board of the Low-Income Housing Committee of the World Economic Forum) said; “As a joint initiative, our goal remains to make cities worldwide more inclusive, sustainable, safe and resilient. Affordable housing, accessible public modes of transport, improving road safety, and most importantly safeguarding the region’s cultural and natural heritage are the areas I strongly support in our mission towards Sustainable Development Goals. The recognition as a ‘City Changer’ is extremely motivating and drives me to further demonstrate design thinking with real impact to address these global challenges. I humbly dedicate this achievement to HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and would like to thank him for his continuous support to my professional endeavours.”
The World Urban Campaign has recognized 9 other Sustainable Development Goals activists from India, Germany, Paraguay, and the USA to make a power list of 10 dependable City Changers. Since its launch in 2010, the WUC has played a key role in creating synergies between urban partners, promoting dialogue, and advocating for the implementation of the New Urban Agenda. The international campaign engages in global conversations, manifestos for greener cities and also focuses on climate change to drive its goals.
In 2021, the World Urban Campaign’s mission is to take climate action in cities and communities. Along with these 10 chosen City Changers, the campaign has 172 partners and 266 Urban Thinkers Campuses to drive the change towards a better future together. Dr. Mahmoud AlBurai’s experience in leading initiatives under Sustainable Development Goals in the region will help him immensely in contributing towards the larger picture of a sustainable and resilient world.
