TransOman seeks to lift the logistics discipline in Oman and maximize on its growth potential in the upcoming years.

Organised by Oman International Trade and Exhibitions (OITE) under the auspices of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the event for the transport, shipping and logistics sector (TransOman) is set to take place from October 24 to 26 at the Oman International Exhibition Centre.

TransOman Exhibition 2011 is planned with an increased space and new suppliers of the most innovative solutions, services and infrastructure designed for the transport, shipping, aviation and logistics industry. The event will highlight industry issues, discover the latest trends, connect and do business with various suppliers and service providers in the air, road, rail, shipping, customs, cargo and logistics businesses, connecting Oman, the rest of the region and beyond.

A Conference on the country's premier transport and logistic will be held from 25th to 26th alongside the exhibition at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Seeb, Muscat. With aim to promote Oman's potential as the next Middle East logistic hub and gateway to the world, key government officials along with the country's top transport and logistics industry leaders will once again convene at the conference to discuss various issues and key challenges associated across the sector.

The event is already receiving great interest from both previous and new participants alike. This year's TransOman exhibition will attract international interest from key logistics and transport hubs such as the US, Middle East, Europe, Asia and the Sultanate.

As per a report published by an international consulting firm, Booz & Company, it is estimated that the Middle East transportation and logistics market will increase from approximately $18 billion in total value in 2008 to $27 billion by 2012. The report adds that profit margins for operations in the MENA region can increase in tandem with the complexity and level of sophistication of the logistics service. "Transportation (ground transport, air and sea freight) will likely grow at approximately a seven percent [compound annual growth rate (CAGR)], only slightly surpassing overall GDP growth. But logistics services, that is, warehousing, contract logistics, and freight forwarding, are expected to show substantially higher annual growth rates of 10 percent or more," said Sherwin Sevillena, Senior Manager of Conferences at OITE.
