Dubai, UAE; April 9, 2014: Tradewinds Corporation, the premier leisure and hospitality owner-operator in Malaysia chaired by Mohamed Alabbar and backed by The Albukhary Group, today unveiled the masterplan of its flagship project Perdana Quay, with a gross development value of AED 4.5 billion (US$1.2 billion), in Langkawi.

Perdana Quay is the island's first-ever integrated leisure, retail, residential and commercial development, targeted at luxury travellers seeking an ecological and nature-oriented option to more conventional destinations like Phuket and Bali.

Malaysian Prime Minister Mohd Najib Tun Razak unveiled the masterplan and also marked the ground-breaking of The Burau Langkawi, a luxury deluxe resort that marks the first phase of Perdana Quay, in the presence of Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, former Prime Minister; Mukhriz Mahathir, the Chief Minister of Kedah state; and Mohamed Alabbar.

The Burau Langkawi is expected to be completed by end-2017, and will feature 245 deluxe rooms and 60 luxury villas including 26 ultra-luxury villas on Pulau Anak Burau. Overall, Perdana Quay will echo of some of the most famous resort destinations in the world, including Malibu, the Maldives and Monaco.

Mr. Alabbar said: "Perdana Quay will energise the economy of Langkawi by creating a world-class leisure and lifestyle destination. It will be a magnet for tourists, as well as for investors seeking high-end residences in a spectacular beachfront location. We are thankful to the authorities for their support and encouragement to the project. Tradewinds Corporation will bring world-class design and construction competencies to Perdana Quay, which will create new jobs, support local industries and strengthen the tourism sector."

Nestled in a sheltered bay on the island's north-western corner facing the Andaman Sea, Perdana Quay will be developed over 10 years in six phases and is aimed at tourists from fast-growing Asian countries like China, Singapore and the Middle East. Spread over 240 acres of land at Pantai Kok-Teluk Burau on the northwest of the island, the project will be developed into five distinct components, including waterfront holiday villas, lake homes and other luxury residential properties.

Tradewinds Corporation has bespoke luxury and ecologically conscious resort properties employing such prestigious brands under its stable as Hilton, Istana, Mutiara and Meritus. Perdana Quay further underlines The Albukhary Group's commitment to Langkawi and is its newest project in the island following the Rebak Island Resort, which is privately-owned by the group.
