44 outlets to exhibit gemstones and a wide array of hand-made goods
The Tanzanian Ambassador in UAE, HE Mustafa Saalim Niyanjani, inaugurated the Tanzanian pavilion on Wednesday, the 10th of January, at Global Village, a member of Tatweer. The pavilion was inaugurated in the presence of the General Consul of Tanzania for Dubai and the Northern Emirates; Abdul Redha Ali bin Redha, Chief Executive Officer of Global Village; representatives of Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Ebrahim Abdul Rahim, Director of Global Village; and Tanzanian expatriates in Dubai.
The Tanzanian ambassador, in his opening speech, called on all emirati businessmen to invest in his country pointing out to the numerous investment opportunities and the thriving tourism sector in the East African nation. He emphasized on the favourable relations that the two countries enjoy and thanked the government and the people of UAE for their support in establishing an embassy in Abu Dhabi and a general consulate in Dubai. He also mentioned that all UAE nationals are given an entry visa upon arrival at the airport in Tanzania.
Hussain Kaswani, Project Manager for Global Village explained that the Tanzanian pavilion covers an area of 750 square metres and hosts 44 retail stores belonging to Tanzanian traders who have come to participate in Global Village to promote their products in the Gulf through Dubai. Products exhibited include gemstones, wooden and leather handmade artifacts, shoes, bags, belts, and some natural food products like honey, and tea from mountain estates. An interesting point to note is that the gemstones are sold at prices much lower than market prices.
The pavilion also includes a section for promoting tourism and wildlife parks in Tanzania where visitors can find wild animals in their natural habitats. The pavilion also includes a theatre where, every night, shows and traditional folklore dances from Africa are staged.
Tanzania covers an area of 945,000 square metres and has a population of 35 million. The Global Village, a member of 'Tatweer Group', opened its gates to visitors at Dubailand, located on Emirates Road, on December 13, 2006 and remains open until February 9, 2007 from 4pm until midnight everyday from Sunday until Wednesday, and from 4 pm until 1am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Mondays are dedicated for families.
