DUBAI: Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of Tanzania, lead the celebrations of her country’s Expo 2020 Dubai National Day today (26 February), which will include exciting cultural performances and investment forums held throughout the day.

HE Samia Suluhu Hassan was welcomed by His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence Commissioner General of Expo 2020 Dubai, and Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director General, Expo 2020 Dubai.

HE Samia Suluhu Hassan said: “The theme of Expo 2020 Dubai of ‘Connecting Minds, Creating The Future’ goes well with Tanzania’s theme that says ‘Tanzania: Ready to take off’, and we are really ready to take off. These two themes embrace the new age of investment and trade with strategic partners like the UAE, in particular and the Gulf in general. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you all to Tanzania, where the business and investment environment are more than condusive. Come one, come all to Tanzania.

“Allow me to reassure the commitment of the government, the United Republic of Tanzania, to continue working hand in hand with the government of the United Arab Emirates to ensure that our sound historical, socio-economic and political cooperation is promoted and sustained for the better interest of our people.”

HE Sheikh Nahayan said: “Tanzania's participation features its plans to achieve its vision of becoming a trading hub that connects Africa to the world. Its participation also gives visitors a window into the country’s beauty and rich culture.

“Tanzania has always been one of the UAE’s closest partners in the region across cultural, economic, and political fronts, and we look forward to expanding our partnership in various areas of mutual interest.”

The national day celebrations kicked off with a dazzling performance by Rahat–l-Zamman, a twelve-strong taarab orchestra from Zanzibar. Their aim is to preserve traditional taarab music, which combines blended influences from Arabia, India and African cultures.

They were followed by the Magomamoto Theater Group, a group of ambitious young patriots, whose aim is to promote and preserve Tanzanian and African art and culture. Dancing the Sogota – a type of dance from the Sukuma tribe in Mwanza in Tanzania, and playing the sindimba drumming – from the Makonde tribe from Mtwara, Tanzania – the group gave a heartfelt performance that showcased the art, culture and good governance of their country.

Expo 2020 Dubai visitors are welcome to visit the Tanzania Pavilion throughout the day, where an exciting array of forums will be held to showcase the investment opportunities available in the country.

The ‘Be Inspired – Tanzania: The Land of Diverse Creativity and Talents’ event will bring together the gurus of the growing fashion and entertainment industry to highlight investment opportunities. It will be followed by the ‘Energy for Life - A Focus on Revolutionizing the Tanzanian Energy Sector’, which will allow visitors discover how Tanzania is transforming its energy sector towards greener, more sustainable ways of production.

The ‘Modern Communication Technology: A Key Aspect of Economic Development’ forum will then highlight the Tanzanian government’s investment in communications and offer the international community insights into investing in modern communications technology in the country.

Tanzania’s National Day celebrations will end with a unique musical performance on the Sea Stage at 1730 of Tanzania Bango Fleva – the nickname for the Tanzanian music genre that was developed in the 1990s.

The Tanzania Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, located in the Mobility District, provides a window to experience the full breadth of the East African nation on an engaging trip of a lifetime, showcasing its beauty and potential, and its vision of becoming a trading hub that connects the continent to the world. Visitors can sit back and enjoy a virtual safari, walk through the streets of Dar es Salaam and fly over Tanzania for a bird's-eye view of the country.
