net.com's SHOUT platform paves a smooth road to VoIP

Network Equipment Technologies, Inc., dba net.com, (NYSE: NWK), a global supplier of communications equipment, announced today that it will join the Microsoft Partner Solutions Centre (MPSC) to highlight the capabilities of its SHOUT VoIP migration appliance (VMA) for global enterprises.

A unique environment, the MPSC is a technical ecosystem where Microsoft's partners and customers can develop and test the new communications solutions that will reshape how companies compute and communicate. At the MPSC, prospective customers will be able to experience first-hand the benefits of net.com's SHOUT VMA, which enables enterprises to make a simple, safe and sound migration to VoIP.

"Voice services will ultimately migrate to an IP-based infrastructure but it will take time. SHOUT provides enterprises with a viable migration strategy, on their own terms," said Hubert "Bert" Whyte, president and CEO of net.com. "We're excited to be a part of the MPSC because Microsoft's focus on real-time collaboration with its Live Communications Server represents powerful and exciting communications opportunities for the future. We are looking forward to demonstrating our capabilities in that dynamic environment."

"We are pleased to have net.com join the MPSC as a Sponsor Partner," said Jarmo Paukkunen, director of the Microsoft Partner Solutions Centre at Microsoft Corp. "Their SHOUT VMA solution is an important addition to our partner community because it enables enterprises to upgrade their data network at their own pace, cap investment in legacy equipment, pull the telephony infrastructure into the new environment, and begin to add new SIP-based applications to the existing infrastructure."

According to Allan Sulkin, president and founder of TEQConsult Group, "Enterprises need to be able to take advantage of VoIP cost savings and derived system performance benefits today, while maximising their investment in existing voice and data systems, and at the same time preserving network security." Sulkin, author of PBX Systems for IP Telephony: Migrating Enterprise Communications, added, "Large, multinational organisations with multi-vendor PBX system implementations find it especially difficult to attain these advantages due to lack of VoIP interoperability between different vendors' PBX platforms. SHOUT addresses this problem, offering a highly integrated voice migration appliance with a rich set of protocol and interoperability features."

SHOUT combines a voice router with built in call control, a session border controller for firewall and NAT traversal, a media gateway for connectivity to legacy PBX's and the PSTN, a protocol translator and converter for multi-vendor PBX interconnectivity, a flexible scripting language for configuring and manipulating call flows, SIP and H.323 interworking, and an open programming interface to enable multiple protocols for existing and next generation enterprise applications and databases.
